As they stepped through the tall grass, a noisy bird took flight and cried out in alarm. Blackjaw watched as it retreated into the morning sky, the sun shaded by pink-gray clouds. She was silent, her countenance impassive as she climbed into a rock that protruded above the grass, settling down to watch the sea of green writhe in the wind. She did not oft come here, as nearby was the place where Shellstrike had been slain all those moons ago. Though she had victoriously avenged him, it was a hurtful reminder that all were capable of failure.
Their white-tipped tail rapped against the rock as they became lost in thought, wondering just what lie in wait beyond the reach of expectation. Suddenly, the sound of the grass parting behind her would cause her to turn her head, craning her neck to look over her shoulder. "Good morning," she meowed politely.
